Great news for school students in the UAE who want to build up work experience before graduating. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation issued a decree allowing students aged 15-18 to be employed by a private sector company. Here is everything you need to know about the new decree:
The decree has listed some conditions that must be met for the student to be employed. These include a written approval from the parent or guardian of the student, the availability of the UAE ID card, and proof of student status. As for non-Emirati students wishing to train or work, they must have valid residence.
The contract must comply with the Ministry’s terms and conditions which include the training work, its duration, weekly days off, other leave, amount of trainee reward (if any).
Students can work for 3 months during their school breaks. The young employees can work for a maximum of seven hours a day including an hour break.
The hiring companies must provide a contract that complies with the Ministry’s regulations prior to their employment. All students must also be given health and safety training prior to their employment. The decree forbids companies from hiring students for any work that could pose any harm to them or work with dangerous materials.
At the end of the employment contract, the company must award the student with a certificate which includes a performance evaluation.
The new decree will surely help students gain experience while protecting their rights.
