It’s that time of the year again in Dubai, isn’t it? You step out of an airconditioned hallway into the outdoors, and your glasses fog up. Summer is here and it’s here to stay.
It’s not only the higher temperatures but the increasing humidity as well that we have to deal within the next few months.
With the temps on an upward path over the next few months, here are a few ways you can beat the heat this summer period.
Water, water, and even more water!
The best way to keep cool this summer period is to keep yourself hydrated. We are aware that we need to drink 8 glasses of water a day or some other variant of that – but do we do it on a daily basis?
Most of us would say no, but the summertime is when we need to. Drinking water not only regulates the core body temperature but keeps your body hydrated as well.
Add in fresh fruits to your glass of water to make it more interesting.
While no sunscreen is 100% preventative for stopping ultraviolet rays, it’s still important to use it.
Sunblock is not something reserved for a day at the beach – it’s vital that you apply when stepping out daily. By using sunblock daily, you will avoid sunburns and sun damage to your skin.
Remember to apply sunscreen a good half an hour before you step put as it needs time to be absorbed by the skin.
Just because it’s summer, it doesn’t mean you have to stop with exercise. Consider water-based activities such as swimming, paddle boarding and consider undertaking them when the temperatures are much cooler like early morning or late at night.
Teas like chrysanthemum, hibiscus, and mint are teas that have a cooling effect and is a welcome respite in the summer heat. Make sure to infuse the teas with fruits and place in the refrigerator to have the best effect.
Drinking coconut water can really help during the summer. If you can’t get fresh coconut water so easily, supermarkets have dozens of prepackaged coconut water – this will help too.
Keep an umbrella with you over the next few months and use it during the summer heat. Don’t know where to get one. It’s usually said that black umbrellas are best against the sun since black absorbs most of the radiation.
Summer is a part of life in the UAE and if you follow practical steps to beat the heat this summer, you should be fine.
