5 tips to save electricity in the UAE this summer

Let’s face it, we live in a VERY hot climate, especially during summer, which is right around the corner. And each summer we live in the dilemma of what is more unbearable, the heat or the high electricity bill?

Well, the good news is that there are multiple ways you can stay cool and cut down when you receive your electricity bill (literally, stay cool). Here are 5 effortless ways to save electricity in the UAE:

Check and set

First things first, do a pre-summer check up on your AC and make sure that the air filters are clean, you really don’t want it to break down in the middle of summer. Once the weather starts to get warm, it’s time to set your AC to ‘auto mode.’ This way you make sure your room is at the ideal temperature all summer long. Remember, the AC is meant to keep your room cool and not turn it into an igloo.

Do the laundry

The washing machine is one of the biggest electricity and water consumers. Try to set the water temperature a bit lower than you usually do, as the washing machine consumes electricity to heat the water. Finally, only do the laundry on weekends when your laundry basket is full.

Draw the curtains

Closing the curtains at noon (when it’s the hottest) blocks sunlight and heat from getting to the room and keeps it cooler, which means you don’t need to crank the temperature lower than it should be.

Unplug the energy vampires

These energy vampires are electronics that consume energy even if they are turned off, as long as they are plugged in. These vampires are anything with a light or a clock, i.e. your tv, set-top box, microwave etc. If you haven’t been using these electronics for a long time, you can sell them on dubizzle and make some extra cash 😉

Unplug yourself and have some fun

Seriously, it’s a way to cut down on electricity. Go out, meet your friends. Not only will you save electricity, you’ll also recharge your batteries. 😊
